Butter Button Cookies
- 1 cup butter, soft
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Butter baking sheet.
- Mix butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until well blended; mix in cornstarch, vanilla and flour until soft dough forms.
- Divide dough into 4 equal pieces.
- Roll each piece on floured surface into foot long rope.
- Cut each rope into 12 pieces and roll into balls.
- Bake on prepared baking sheet for 20 minutes, the tops will be pale and the bottoms will be golden. Cookies will not spread out.
- Sift the remaining 1 cup powdered sugar.
- Add 12 warm cookies and toss to coat.
- While still warm poke 4 holes in a buttonhole pattern with a toothpick in each cookie.
- Cool completely before serving.
